San Marcos Cocos fire
I live in Carlsbad and watched the Poinsettia fire and Coco’s fire from my home. I feel sorry if your home got affected by these fires.
There were 9 fires burning at the same time in San Diego County. The biggest one was the Cocos Fire. It burned 1,995 acres , started May 14 in the afternoon and was fully contained May 22. The fire started west of the development called Discovery Hills, higher-end custom homes enjoying views elevated above San Marcos State University. The fire spread throughout Harmony Grove and Elfin Forest a neighborhood with homes on larger lots and a rural feel. Fire crews said that the most devastating loss occurred in 2 minutes and burned 15 structures on a century old church retreat called Harmony Grove Spiritualist. Unfortunately additional 11 homes were destroyed but many homes were spared thanks to the fantastic job our fire women and men were doing.
As a pilot and professional aerial photographer I took over 60 aerials of the Discovery Hills and Elfin Forest area on May 26th 2014. If you are a home owner or resident in these neighborhoods, you can download these aerial images at no charge: go to the image gallery, select the photos you are interested it from the picture gallery, email me the image numbers at lenskab@gmail.com and receive the high resolution images by email within 24 hours.
I thought that the images may be useful to you if you are in the process of filing a claim, dealing with your insurance company, waiting for the adjuster or need help assessing the damage.
